40
Under 40 Award
San Diego, California (September 20,
2006) – SGIS CEO Hany
Girgis took home an award for San Diego Metropolitan magazine’s 40
Under 40 Awards at the seventh annual awards ceremony, presented at the San
Diego Convention Center. This award
recognizes the accomplishments of 40 of
San
Diego's brightest young business and civic
leaders. These up-and-comers must be
under 40 years old and a resident of San
Diego County.
Girgis founded
SGIS from his garage in June 2002. Since
its inception, SGIS has grown into a national organization that delivers technical
services and solutions through government contracting opportunities to
organizations at the local, state and federal levels. The company has seen phenomenal revenue
increases each year, as well as expansion in its employee base, currently
employing over 600 people.
Girgis is
actively involved in several programs and organizations within the
community. During the last holiday
season, he purchased clothing, shoes and toys for four under privileged
families via San Diego Social Services.
He also provided the use of a second property for families of the
Hurricane Katrina tragedy. The displaced evacuees were given a home for
six months with amenities while their homes were being rebuilt and/or
relocated. Girgis provided time and financial contributions to the
Partners Mentorship Program and the Renaissance Program at Wilson Middle School
in San Diego. The Renaissance Program rewards children for
their personal and academic accomplishments. Annually, he makes
charitable contributions to the American Red Cross, Children’s International
and the University
of Central Florida Alumni Association.
Other
notable achievements for Girgis include being recognized as a regional finalist
for the 2006 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2006 Awards in the High
Technology category. SGIS was also named
the 13th Fastest Growing Company in America for 2006 on Entrepreneur magazine and PricewaterhouseCoopers’
Hot 100 list.
“I am
honored to be distinguished with this prestigious award,” stated Girgis. “San
Diego is a great market and has served as the
launching pad for a good deal of SGIS’ national business. The company is committed to the Southern
California region and San Diego
community and is proud and appreciative of this honor.”
“Each year
I am amazed at the accomplishments of the young men and women who are nominated
for this award," says Gary Shaw, publisher of San Diego Metropolitan
and president of Metro San Diego Communications Inc. "I'm grateful to our judges who spend
considerable time in making the difficult decisions about who to select. Nominations
come from our readers, but the judges get the tough work. Being able to review the accomplishments of
not only the winners, but of all the nominees, gives me great confidence in San Diego's future.”
